Fred Smith of FEDEX and Norman Waitt of Gateway Computers who financed "My Big Fat Greek Wedding", as Marc Turtletaub from The Money Store, Roger Marino from EMC Corp, former Chicago bulls co-owner Jim Stern, Jeff Skoll of Ebay, Sidney Kimmel Of Jones Apparel Group, Minnesota Twins owner Bill Pohlad, and more.
I am looking to partner up with a similar individual who either recently sold his/her company, exited one with a large severance pay, is perhaps bored, and has always secretly wanted to be in the movie business for tax, vanity, or alternative investment reasons who can comfortably and individually invest 1.5 million -10 million either in an individual film, a slate of films, or as part of a fund where there capital will be protected 100%
I have an innovative risk minimization strategy and exit scenarios for several films including a Russian themed "Goodfellas" meets "Scarface" that can be the next great indie hit ("Sideways", "Garden State", etc)
There is ripe window of opportunity for independently financed films as exemplified with the recent success of such films as Napoleon Dynamite (made for $250,000, sold for $5 million, made $50 million at b.o), Garden State, Open Water, Maria Full of Grace, SAW (made for $750,000, made $60 million), as well as the phenomenal success of "My Big Fat Greek Wedding". The major studios are drying up in terms of producing product in-house and are aggressively looking to buy films made independently.
